Oundle Mencap Holidays is proud to offer young people the chance to volunteer with us and learn new life skills, grow in confidence and breakdown any assumptions about people with additional support needs.

We aim to teach kindness, patience and acceptance, as well as imparting valuable employment skills to our volunteers and provide a framework in which they can give back to society whilst maintaining what is a demanding educational experience.

Many of our volunteers are pupils at, or recent levers of, Oundle School but we welcome applications from anyone who is interested in committing their time to our Holidays, and experiencing the magic that OMH has to offer.

How Do I Volunteer with Oundle Mencap Holidays?

How old do I have to be?

We require our volunteers to be aged 17 or over at the start of our Holidays.  On our Summer Holiday, our Helpers tend to be either in their last year of school, a recent leaver or a University undergraduate.

Do I need to live locally?

No, we welcome volunteers from any location, whether you live locally to Oundle, or further afield.

Do I need to pay to volunteer?

Absolutely not. Full accommodation and meals are provided for all volunteers, any entry fees for trips out are covered by the Charity alongside spending money for volunteers and Holiday Makers to buy drinks, ice creams or similar.

Do I need volunteering experience?

Not at all. If you have not volunteered with OMH or another charity before, that is not a problem.  We will provide you with training and all new volunteers are fully supported by a team of experienced staff, many of whom have been with our Holidays for a number of years.

Does OMH require references?

All volunteers will be required to undertake a DBS (Government Disclosure and Barring Service) Check, which OMH will organise on your behalf. Equally, any new volunteers will be required to provide two references, from people such as a teacher, tutor, employer or similar.

How do I apply to volunteer with OMH?

If you are interested in volunteering on any of our Holidays in 2024, please click the button below to get in touch with us, and let us know that you are interested. This by no means constitutes any level of commitment at this stage, but one of our team will be in touch with you with some more information and let you know the next steps in the process.

If I apply, am I guaranteed a volunteering place?

We have a very strong retention rate of volunteers, with many returning to help out year after year. Whilst this sometimes puts a limit on the number of volunteering opportunities that we have available, we are always keen to hear from new volunteers and are more often than not able to accommodate you.
